Problem Braun Industries, Inc. (Braun Ambulances) is recalling certain 2023-2026 Chief XL Type I, Express Plus Type I, Liberty Type I, RMT US Type I, and Select Chief XL Type I ambulances. The brake pedal switch may have been damaged, preventing the cruise control from disengaging when the brake is depressed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems" and 124, "Accelerator Control Systems." Risk Failure to turn off the cruise control may cause unexpected acceleration as the brake is released, increasing the risk of crash. Fix Braun Ambulances will replace the brake switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2025. Owners may contact Braun Ambulances' customer service at 1-877-344-9990. Braun Ambulances number for this recall is 2025-1.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 2025-1 is the number Braun Ambulances assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 25V677000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is 2025-1 the same recall as 25V677000?

Yes. 2025-1 is Braun Ambulances’s own number for it; 25V677000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 2025-1 cover?

2023–2026 Braun Ambulances Chief XL Type I and 4 other Braun Ambulances models, 413 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the 2025-1 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
