Problem Bluecar SAS (Bluecar) is recalling certain model year 2016 Bluecar vehicles manufactured June 7, 2015, to December 15, 2015. The power train software of the affected vehicles may shut down power to the car after certain driving conditions such as high acceleration with immediate release of the accelerator, or harsh braking action. Risk If the vehicle loses power, it can increase the risk of a crash. Fix Bluecar notified the owner of the fleet of vehicles, and all affected vehicles have received corrected power train software, free of charge. The recall was completed on December 23, 2015. Bluecar's number for this recall is Software Shut Off.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. Software Shut Off is the number Bluecar assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V042000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
