Problem Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2017 Altec AT37, AT41 and AT48 aerial devices. The hydraulic line protective hose sock may have been incorrectly installed through the insulating section of the lower boom. Risk The incorrectly installed protective hose sock can cause the potential for electrical continuity through the lower boom, increasing the risk of an electrical shock. Fix Altec will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hydraulic hose bundle on the articulating arm and remove any hose sock in the insulated section, free of charge. The recall began November 14, 2018. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 693.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. CSN 693 is the number Altec assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V693000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
