Problem Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Altec LS63 and LS87 aerial devices equipped with a pintle hook mounted into the Class 3 receiver tube. This towing combination was shipped without a placard that provides the maximum allowable towing limit, possibly resulting in the receiver tube being overloaded. Risk An overloaded receiver tube could detach, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Altec will notify owners, and provide them with a placard that states the limit of the receiver tube assembly as 600lbs vertical load, and 6,000lbs towing capacity, free of charge. The recall began on July 25, 2018. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 684.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. CSN 684 is the number Altec assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V348000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
