Problem Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 DL and DM Digger Derricks manufactured October 1, 2014, to April 30, 2016 with the digger booms mounted in the corner. The rotation bearing fasteners on the affected vehicles may not have been properly torqued. Risk If the fasteners are loose or improperly torqued, structural failure may result, causing unexpected movement of the digger derrick and increasing the risk of injury. Fix Altec has notified owners, and instruct them to perform the annual torque inspection, free of charge. The recall began June 2, 2016. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 633.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. CSN 633 is the number Altec assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V307000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
