Repair Claim Kit

Before you pay for a repair, find out what the manufacturer already told its dealers about it. Pick your car and the problem: the kit gathers the service bulletins, any warranty extension and its terms, and the recalls to check on your VIN; answer a few questions about your car and it writes your NHTSA complaint and a dated letter to the dealer for you. You see exactly what it will hold before you pay.

Your NHTSA complaint, written for you

A short form inside the kit asks what happens, when, the mileage and the dealer visits. The kit turns your answers into a finished complaint for NHTSA’s own form, and rewrites it as you type.

  • Each box of NHTSA’s form filled in, with a copy button
  • The description written from your answers, citing the manufacturer’s documents
  • Step-by-step filing. You submit it, in a few minutes

A dealer letter, filled in with your details

Dated, addressed to the service manager and copied to the manufacturer. It names your car, your mileage and your visits, cites each document by number, and asks for the repair to be covered and for the answer in writing.

  • Your name, dealer, mileage and repair orders, not blanks
  • Every coverage program and bulletin cited by number
  • Copy it, or print it and sign it

What the manufacturer filed, by number

Any warranty extension or special-coverage program for your problem, with its terms, then the service bulletins the manufacturer sent its dealers about it, newest first, with what each one says.

  • Coverage programs and their years-or-miles terms
  • Service bulletins by number and date, with what each says
  • How many are on file, not just the newest

What other owners reported

How many owners reported the same problem to NHTSA on your model year, the mileage they reported it at, and what they wrote. It is the record that says it is not just your car.

  • The count of owner reports, and any crashes, fires or injuries
  • The median mileage it showed up at
  • Owners’ own words, dated

Who to call, and the recalls to check

The manufacturer’s customer-service number, taken from its own recall filings, the recalls on the system with the fix each one gets, and any do-not-drive or park-outside warning on your model year.

  • The number to call to open a case
  • Recalls on the system, free at any dealer
  • What to do, in order, from the service desk to NHTSA

A repair log for the paper trail

Dates, mileage, repair-order numbers and what the dealer said, on one printable page. If the problem keeps coming back, this record is what matters, to the manufacturer and under your state’s lemon law.

  • Every visit, call and case number in one place
  • Your NHTSA confirmation number beside them
  • Printed with the kit, or saved as a PDF

Common questions

Source: WhichTrim

What is a Repair Claim Kit?

A printable pack for one problem on one model year: the manufacturer's own bulletins and warranty extensions about it, the recalls on the system, the owner-report pattern, and a letter to the dealer that cites them by number.

Does it guarantee the repair will be covered?

No. It puts the documented record in front of the dealer and the manufacturer. Whether they pay depends on your warranty, any coverage program's terms, and their goodwill policy. It is not legal advice.

Where does the information come from?

NHTSA's public files — manufacturer communications, recalls, complaints and investigations — as WhichTrim publishes them for every model year. The facts are free on each model year's page; the kit organises them for your problem and drafts the letter.

Does WhichTrim file the NHTSA complaint for me?

No. NHTSA asks the owner to submit the report and stand behind what it says, so you file it yourself. The kit writes it from your answers, fills in each box of the form and walks you through it: a few minutes instead of an evening.

What if the kit is not useful for my problem?

Write to info@whichtrim.com within 30 days and you get a full refund. The page shows exactly what the kit will hold before you pay, and says so when the record on your problem is thin.

Do I need an account?

No. You pay once through Stripe, and the kit opens in your browser to print or save as a PDF. Stripe emails the receipt. Your answers about your car stay in your browser.

What happens after I pay?

Stripe brings you back to your kit’s page, where it is assembled for your car and problem. Print it or save it as a PDF there: that copy is yours to keep.
