Rivian filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Sep 23, 2026, received Oct 6, 2026, about the electrical system — 1 document under this number: RCA-78-26-007-1. It names 1 model year (2027). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2027 R2 vehicles that may have been built with a south/rear multifunction module that was incorrectly assembled by the supplier. This condition may result in a reduction of electrical isolation and a corresponding malfunction indicator on the driver display informing the driver that the vehicle requires service. In rare instances, the driver will receive a notification to pull over safely and the vehicle will enter a reduced performance safe-state mode. Rivian will inspect the south/rear multifunction module and replace the south/rear multifunction module or the HV battery energy management control module. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 1 model year this bulletin names have filed 5 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 1 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.
