Mazda bulletin SA-020-24a

What it saysThe CX-70 and CX-90 have new and revised features that are different from previous models and may be difficult to understand. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Mazda filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Apr 23, 2024, received May 3, 2024, about the equipment adaptive/mobility. It names 2 model years (2024–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 491 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 204 of them name Forward Collision Avoidance, Electrical System, Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

I am reporting a safety problem with the adaptive cruise control feature of my 2023 Mazda CX-90. The adaptive cruise control system does not detect the lanes correctly and applies the brakes unnecessarily, even when there are no cars in front of me. This happens especially on curves and when there are trucks on other lanes.

2024 Mazda CX-90 · Forward Collision Avoidance · filed with NHTSA Nov 29, 2023

Multiple times when there is a car on my left or right blind spot and I am merging into their lane the warning does not go off and has caused me to nearly collide with the cars without my intervention. The warnings only work if the cars are behind me not adjacently.

2025 Mazda CX-70 · Lane Departure · filed with NHTSA Dec 23, 2025

CX-70 routinely has been falsely alerting to an impending crash when no vehicles in front or to the sides. Vehicle routinely does not alert when there is traffic to left or right when merging into a lane.

2025 Mazda CX-70 · Forward Collision Avoidance · filed with NHTSA Aug 25, 2025

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mazda SA-020-24a a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the SA-020-24a repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does SA-020-24a cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years: 2025 Mazda CX-70, 2024 Mazda CX-90. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
