Hyundai bulletin 24-EM-010H

What it saysCertain Elantra N (CN7 N), Kona N (OS N), and Veloster N (JS N) vehicles may have DTC P1326 set due to water intrusion in the knock sensor connector during heavy rain or car wash conditions. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Hyundai filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Dec 19, 2024, received Dec 21, 2024, about the engine. It names 9 model years (2019–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (8 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Hyundai’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 9 model years this bulletin names have filed 727 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 141 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The knock sensor on the engine fails when exposed to any amount of water. The car is designed in a way that lets on too much. It’s something that is VERY common amongst owners of these vehicles. It’s a safety flaw that needs to be fixed because it puts the car in “limp” mode. That makes the car instantly halt acceleration.

2023 Hyundai Kona · Engine · filed with NHTSA Mar 10, 2024

The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine compartment fire while safely parked inside an employment parking garage in on XXX, at approximately 3:04 PM. I was physically sitting inside the vehicle cabin when heavy smoke suddenly began pouring out from the engine bay. I immediately evacuated the vehicle for my safety.

2024 Hyundai Elantra · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jul 15, 2026

There have been two instances of fuel injector failures on the 2022 Veloster in within 20,000 miles. The first instance (cylinder 2) occurred at approximately 7,000 miles. The car experienced a sudden loss of power, followed by misfires and smoke from the tailpipe and the check engine light coming on during failure.

2022 Hyundai Veloster · Engine · filed with NHTSA Mar 19, 2024

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Hyundai 24-EM-010H a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 24-EM-010H repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does 24-EM-010H cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 9 model years: 2024 Hyundai Elantra, 2023 Hyundai Elantra, 2022 Hyundai Elantra, 2023 Hyundai Kona, 2022 Hyundai Kona, 2022 Hyundai Veloster and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
