Ford filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Apr 5, 2024, received Apr 24, 2024, about the power train. It names 6 model years across Ford and Lincoln (2023–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationSome 2023-2024 Escape/Corsair vehicles equipped with a 1.5L or 2.0L EcoBoost engine, 2024 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine, and 2024 Nautilus vehicles may exhibit an engine misfire condition with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0301, P0302, P0303 and/or P0304 set in the powertrain control module (PCM). If the codes are stored in the PCM, remove and inspect the condition of all the spark plugs. If any spark plugs appear to be damaged, use a borescope to inspect the condition of the cylinder walls. If the cylinder walls are scored/scraped/damaged, replace the long block engine assembly (6006) to resolve this condition. If the cylinder walls are not scored/scraped/damaged, replace the damaged spark plug(s) and advise the customer that engineering is investigating this issue. Monitor OASIS for additional information and schedule service appointments for customers once the repair becomes available.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 6 model years this bulletin names have filed 383 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 33 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
a 2023 Ford Escape. while driving at approximately 76 MPH, I observed a warning chime dinging, the power train warning light illuminated, and the low engine coolant message was displayed. I received a notification via the Ford Pass APP stating that "There was a failure with the vehicle and to see the dealer'.
2023 Ford Escape · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jul 7, 2024
* The rear differential failed/broke 12 hours into a 13 hour trip. There have been recalls for this issue for previous years but not for 2023 models (yet) * This happened on the interstate and we could have been seriously injured or killed with the sudden loss of function if this happened during the day.
2023 Lincoln Corsair · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Nov 22, 2025
I was driving home from work at approximately 65mph when my transmission shifted and slammed back into gear. I stopped in a safe location, cut the car off and then back on, but the transmission is still slipping.
2024 Ford Mustang · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jan 13, 2025
A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Ford SSM 52419 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the SSM 52419 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.
Which vehicles does SSM 52419 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 6 model years across 2 brands (Ford and Lincoln): 2024 Ford Escape, 2023 Ford Escape, 2024 Ford Mustang, 2024 Lincoln Corsair, 2023 Lincoln Corsair, 2024 Lincoln Nautilus. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
