Fontaine service campaign MAGNITUDE 55MX AND 60HD-MX PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Fontaine filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Aug 27, 2025, received Aug 28, 2025, about the structure — 1 document under this number: W3700658. It names 4 model years (2022–2025). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationFontaine Specialized (“Fontaine) has recently become aware of multiple instances of customer use of Magnitude 55MX and 60HD-MX model trailers in unapproved applications for which the trailers were not designed. In all reported instances, the units at issue appear to have been carrying non-2- point, non-self-supporting loads with the deck stretched. Such load applications and configurations do not comport with Fontaine’s loading decals and instructions. The applications appear to be related to the transport of modular structures for use at AI data centers. This misuse of the trailers has resulted in some customers experiencing weld failures in the outer beam of the overlap area of the inner and outer beams of the trailers. Some observed and reported configurations were using deck inserts in the fully stretched position, while other configurations were fully stretched to maximum length with no deck inserts. In addition, loads did not appear to have the trailer deck strapped to the load as recommended and designed. As such, the load applications were neither 2-point loaded nor self-supporting, rigid loads and exceeded the given trailer's rating capacity. While the Magnitude 55MX was enhanced to bring even more value to our customers with the Gen 2 design, the load capacity did not change from the Gen 1 design. The load capacity of the 55MX Gen 1 and Gen 2 design remained as follows: 1. 55 tons in 16' in the fully closed position 2. 55 tons in Deck length less 2' in the open position, provided the load is 2-point loaded and a self-supporting, rigid load. The load itself is required to support the deck by means of chains, straps, etc. to keep the deck from dropping below a level condition. The 60HD-MX did not have the Gen 2 design enhancements and the load capacity remained as follows: 1. 60 tons in 16' in the fully closed position in a (3+2) configuration 2. 65 tons in 12' in the fully closed position in a (4CC) configuration 3. 60 tons in Deck length less 2' in the open position, provided the load is 2-point loaded and a self-supporting, rigid load. The load itself is required to support the deck by means of chains, straps, etc. to keep the deck from dropping below a level condition. We are asking all Fontaine dealers to remind their customers of the importance and need to adhere to the proper load applications and configurations. To further support our

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.
Model years it names
Source: as the manufacturer filed themAlso filed against: 2022 Fontaine Magnitude; 2023 Fontaine Magnitude; 2024 Fontaine Magnitude; 2025 Fontaine Magnitude.
None of these model years has a page on this site (it covers EPA-certified cars, trucks and SUVs from 2016), so the bulletin is listed here on its own.
Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Fontaine MAGNITUDE 55MX AND 60HD-MX PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM a recall?
No. A service campaign is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is the MAGNITUDE 55MX AND 60HD-MX PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM repair free?
A service campaign is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
Which vehicles does MAGNITUDE 55MX AND 60HD-MX PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 4 model years: 2022 Fontaine Magnitude, 2023 Fontaine Magnitude, 2024 Fontaine Magnitude, 2025 Fontaine Magnitude. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
