Acura bulletin BTI&01032023904

What it saysDealer Message - American Honda Motor Co., Inc. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Acura filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 3, 2023, received Jan 11, 2023, about the electrical system. It names 6 model years (2020–2022). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 6 model years this bulletin names have filed 916 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 154 of them name Electrical System, Fuel/Propulsion System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

There is a recall on my 2020 Acura MDX and I have been going to the local Acura dealer to get the part for the last 6 months and every time I go they tell me they are still waiting for the part. Periodically, the vehicle lurches while I am driving causing a major back and forth tugging and jerking. This is very unsafe.

2020 Acura MDX · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Dec 12, 2024 · ODI 11630480

All electrical systems failed while driving around 30mph, Power steering failed, power brakes failed, lane assist failed. We were at high risk of a crash due to lack of control of the car while driving. We were lucky that it happened on a flat road and we were able to manually pull over to the side of the road.

2022 Acura MDX · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jan 24, 2023 · ODI 11503425

While driving through an active intersection, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of electrical power. The engine shut off without warning and all electrical systems immediately went dead. The instrument cluster went dark, the ignition was unresponsive, and the hazard lights did not function.

2022 Acura RDX · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Apr 3, 2026 · ODI 11729130

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Is Acura BTI&01032023904 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the BTI&01032023904 repair free?
