Ram bulletin 9100799
What it saysWARNING: Shorting the 48V output stud to the 12V output stud can cause immediate and irreversible damage to the power pack unit. NHTSA’s full summary ↓
Ram filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Apr 14, 2026, received Apr 22, 2026, about the electrical system. It names 8 model years (2019–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationWARNING: Shorting the 48V output stud to the 12V output stud can cause immediate and irreversible damage to the power pack unit. Always use insulated tools and protective stud covers when performing service operations. NOTE: A loose or high resistance ground connection may result in abnormal voltage behavior and can increase the risk of electrical component damage. Always verify ground integrity before system power up. For P0AFA repair: Please follow the Service library steps 1 through 7 without fail. Only replace PPU or MGU after verifying the final step of the procedure.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 8 model years this bulletin names have filed 4,134 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 1,260 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
On the 2019 Ram 1500, the 99 owners who gave an odometer reading for Electrical System reported it at a median of 19,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.
Driving vehicle about 2 MPH, taking a right turn - vehicle stalled out and emergency brake light came on. Was able to restart pts ignition without issue, then drive again. Truck has 600+ miles current. Found other Ram owners on 5thgenrams. Com forums stating they are experiencing same issue, so I AM concerned.
2021 Ram 1500 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA May 13, 2021
There is a loud humming/tumbling sound when decelerating at lower roms. It is very loud, obnoxious, and distracting. It was so loud that I couldn’t hear an emergency vehicle coming up behind me to get over. I have found 100’s of complaints on forums with the same issue with the 5th gen rams.
2023 Ram 1500 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Oct 8, 2023
The 2020 Ram 1500 experienced while driving a "data bus failure". This failure caused the vehicle to loose power steering, brakes, ramdom instrumentation displays, wipers to come on, headlights to come on and off. Intermitant loss of trottle control. Happened 4 separate time.
2020 Ram 1500 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jul 20, 2020
A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Ram 9100799 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the 9100799 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.
Which vehicles does 9100799 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 8 model years: 2026 Ram 1500, 2025 Ram 1500, 2024 Ram 1500, 2023 Ram 1500, 2022 Ram 1500, 2021 Ram 1500 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
