Chevrolet bulletin PIT6145

What it saysThis Preliminary information communicates information to verify if the vehicle frame has been lengthened or shorted as a result of the vehicle upfit. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Chevrolet filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Mar 28, 2024, received Apr 15, 2024, about the electronic stability control. It names 9 model years (2019–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 7 model years this bulletin names have filed 4,126 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 414 of them name Service Brakes — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, the 122 owners who gave an odometer reading for Service Brakes reported it at a median of 8,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

Vehicle lost engine power on the road. Light display came on stating engine reduce power. It would not pull the trailer. Had to pull over and the display went away only to appear again later. We brought vehicle to chevrolet dealer . The part needed to hopefully fix is on backorder. There is also recall with no available remedy.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Jul 10, 2025

In August of 2025 I purchased a Chevy MD 5500 from Paul Masse, Inc., in RI. From the time of delivery the truck had a serious shake while operating. Paul Masse, Inc., told me that the tires had flat spots from sitting on the lot prior to purchase. As time went on the dealership placed two new sets of tires on the truck.

I originally bought a new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ld on 06/08/2019, I really liked the truck and its many features. After several weeks I noticed the whole underside frame and driveline components were rusted and corroded. I brought it back to my dealer and they immediately located a replacement vehicle for me.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Chevrolet PIT6145 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIT6145 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does PIT6145 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 9 model years: 2025 Chevrolet Silverado, 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
