GM bulletin PIE0802A

What it saysThis engineering information (EI) closure ends the need for gathering further information from technicians in regard to having the Check Engine Lamp illuminated on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and DTC P0202 set. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 18, 2024, received Dec 19, 2024, about the fuel/propulsion system. It names 6 model years across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac (2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

One page for every brand it was filed under. Each brand’s bulletins: Chevrolet · GMC · Cadillac.

What the bulletin says

2024 Vehicles on or after Jun 2024 “Built from June 2024”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

This engineering information (EI) closure ends the need for gathering further information from technicians in regard to having the Check Engine Lamp illuminated on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and DTC P0202 set. The technician will need to replace the wire harness and affected fuel injector.

Trouble codes it names: P0202

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 6 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,063 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 222 of them name Electrical System, Fuel/Propulsion System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

While in traffic over 45 miles per hour, the vehicle placed itself into a hazard mode due to the electric vehicle propulsion system. This happened so fast and the deceleration rate was so quick that it risked a rear end collision. This is the second time this has happened and both were following a heavy rain storm.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jul 19, 2025

The engine light comes on and then the rpm's drop to 35 and a notification comes up that says "reduced acceleration. driving with caution". If I stop and turn of the vehicle and restart the rpm's will be better but the truck still seems to have a difficult time increasing in rpm's and accelerating gears.

2024 Chevrolet Suburban · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Aug 18, 2025

Today while exiting an off ramp. I stopped for traffic signal. Truck immediately lost power and shifted to neutral. I placed my 4 ways 1. Put the people back in park restarted the ignition truck fired up. This is concerning as i've never had a vehicle with five thousand miles brand new shut off on me

2024 GMC Yukon · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Mar 15, 2025

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is GM PIE0802A a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIE0802A repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does PIE0802A cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 6 model years across 3 brands (Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac): 2024 Cadillac Escalade, 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, 2024 Chevrolet Suburban, 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2024 GMC Sierra, 2024 GMC Yukon. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: 2024 Vehicles: built on or after Jun 2024 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
