Mazda filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 27, 2026, received Feb 3, 2026, about the structure. It names 5 model years (2020–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationWhat it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.
Some customers may report hearing an unusual noise coming from the power liftgate (PLG) when it is unlatching to open or latching closed. This is caused by an internal fault in the liftgate latch and/or loose bolts holding the latch to the liftgate. To eliminate this concern, the internal structure of the latch and surface treatment of the bolts have been modified.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (2 pages), read Sep 29, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Mazda’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 255 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 43 of them name Electrical System, Structure — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
Keyless Entry: I have had this vehicle for about 6 months and over that time, more than 3 separate times the keyless entry hasn't unlocked. It may take 2 - 3 tries. It has never failed to eventually unlock. I don't know that it ever failed to lock because approaching the car it would have already been unlocked.
2023 Mazda CX-50 · Structure · filed with NHTSA Feb 20, 2024
Randomly accelerated on its own; burns oil- low oil levels twice in 6 months; randomly says cruise control is available under 25 mph when car is traveling at highway speeds; the unlock and lock functions randomly fail; lift gate randomly opens; alarm system randomly goes off; TERRIBLE fuel economy (18-21 mpg)
2021 Mazda CX-30 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jun 12, 2022
The infotainment software is bricked. It happened when the battery died after purchasing it. The dealership told me to get a battery should be ok Now the infotainment system doesn't work and lane assist about put me into a guard rail the other day. I have no access to my cars functions and it is crazy scary

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Mazda 09-006-26 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the 09-006-26 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.
Which vehicles does 09-006-26 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years: 2023 Mazda CX-30, 2022 Mazda CX-30, 2021 Mazda CX-30, 2020 Mazda CX-30, 2023 Mazda CX-50. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: 2020-2023 CX-30 (Mexico built): built before 15 Nov 2022; 2023 CX-50: built before 12 Jan 2023 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
