What it saysDear Mercedes-Benz Owner: On behalf of Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (“MBUSA”), thank you for being a part of the Mercedes-Benz family. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a manufacturer communication dated Apr 18, 2026, received May 1, 2026, about the engine. It names 6 model years (2021–2023). A manufacturer communication is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Dear Mercedes-Benz Owner: On behalf of Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (“MBUSA”), thank you for being a part of the Mercedes-Benz family. We hope that you are enjoying your vehicle. Here at MBUSA, we are committed to delivering an exceptional ownership experience. In our continuing efforts to ensure the proper performance and quality of your vehicle, we are writing to inform you that on certain Model Year 2021 - 2023 CLA and GLA vehicles, the nozzle geometry of the exhaust turbocharger might not meet specifications. This could affect exhaust flow in certain load/rpm ranges and increase NOx emissions, potentially causing the vehicle to exceed emissions regulatory limits. An Emission Service Campaign is being conducted to remedy the situation. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

I find the design of the 2022 GLA Mercedes Benz to be flawed. Just the mere filling gas into the tank can cause the Charcoal Canister to go bad; causing the malfunction light to activate; unknown to consumers. A safety flap should be required over the gas hole to prevent any overflow.
