Ford filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated May 21, 2026, received May 26, 2026, about the service brakes. It names 2 model years (2025–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Some 2025-2026 Bronco vehicles may exhibit a condition where cruise control is inoperative and/or an "Adaptive Cruise Control Not Available" message is displayed in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U0422:00 stored in the anti-lock brake (ABS) module. If a vehicle exhibits this condition, this may be due to an incorrect configuration programmed to the ABS module during an attempt to change tire size. <br /><br /> The Ford Performance ProCal 4 tool is the only approved tool that can be used for properly adjusting the tire size calibration. Vehicles originally equipped with 30-inch tires that are being upfit with 35-inch tires should be set to 615 revolutions per mile in the Ford Performance ProCal 4 tool under Diagnostics and Tools > Tire/Gear Adjust. Any other concerns related to tire size calibration that exhibit this condition, contact the Ford Performance Techline as outlined in the Ford Performance ProCal 4 tool instructions. <br /><br /> This limitation in tire size calibration is due to the software in the ABS module.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 60 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 15 of them name Forward Collision Avoidance, Service Brakes — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Sunday April 19 2026, in a drive thru while stopped, the following alerts popped up with their corresponding dash lights: Check Brake System Park Brake limited service function Pre-collision assist not available Service Advance Track Brake pedal lost vacuum / pressure and became hard.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ford SSM 54856 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the SSM 54856 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does SSM 54856 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years: 2026 Ford Bronco, 2025 Ford Bronco. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
