How the score works

Each category is scored 0–100. Relative metrics (price, mpg, cargo, horsepower, warranty…) give 100 to the best vehicle in the comparison and a proportional share to the others; absolute metrics (NHTSA stars, Safety Signal) use their own scale. A metric that is missing for any vehicle is dropped for all of them, so nobody wins on a blank. The overall score is the weighted mean of the categories using your weights. Open park-outside or do-not-drive advisories cost 25 safety points. When you pick a model without choosing a trim, its base trim (lowest MSRP) stands in wherever the manufacturer's press kit is on file, so base compares with base; pick any trim to change that. Vehicles without a press kit are compared on EPA and NHTSA data only.
